Even now, I still hear the floorboards creaking behind me. In a place like that…ya lose track of up, down, left, and right…and forget to check behind ya .It's the best ya can do just to keep one foot in front of the other. I know y'all want to document every single bit of that level, but I recommend ya leave it alone. I doubt anyone would want to even attempt to colonize here. Fuck that place, I should have stayed in Level 4. If ya get stuck in there, and ya see any lit-up sections of the school, head towards it! It's your only chance to escape…
Level 6 - "Darkness"
Level 6, as designated by the M.E.G., is a massive, completely pitch-black environment. Due to the total lack of light, extreme navigation difficulties, and a high presence of hostile entities, it is widely considered one of the most dangerous levels in the Backrooms. Explorers are heavily advised to avoid it entirely, by both fellow travelers and the M.E.G. itself.
Description:
Level 6 is described by people who have entered it as being an infinite school building lacking any natural lighting. Typically, one wanders long hallway segments with doors on both sides that lead into empty classrooms. Occasionally, explorers may come across gyms and cafeterias. Nearly all parts of the level show signs of decay and damage, such as sagging ceilings, mold, water damage, chipped paint, and rotted wooden floors.
Upon entering the level, wanderers have reported the onset of intense psychological distress and disorientation. Prolonged exposure to the level had been said to drastically increase said emotions, spiking upon the sighting of entities. Severe psychological trauma has been observed in some cases, though experiences do not seem to correlate with the level of mental degradation seen. A study is ongoing on the effects the level has on mental health and probable causes.
While the hallways and various rooms are randomly sized, they are revealed to carry the same general aesthetic. For instance, although the length and the height of a hallway may be different than another, there are common characteristics which are shared by both.
Hallways have yellow cream-colored brick walls, unless the paint has been chipped or peeled away. Sometimes, lockers line these halls, though anything of value has yet to be discovered within them. They can be used to hide in when being chased by an entity, who, due to their lack of intelligence, may not be able to open one once closed. Floors of the hallways are white-tiled and often slick from almond water and blood. Classrooms are green-painted, brick-walled rooms with chalkboards hanging at the front or on the floor. Old-fashioned desks are scattered throughout them and are partially bolted to the ground. The floor itself is wooden and the majority of the time will be rotted nearly entirely away or be termite-infested.
Gyms are more open spaces and are often accessible through large, double doors. On both sides of these gyms will be metal bleachers, behind which can be found candy wrappers, deflated balls, and crushed soda bottles that lack labels. Nothing of use can normally be found in these gyms, though they can be used as a place to maneuver around certain entities and slow them down if being chased.
Cafeterias are likely to be smaller than gyms and have benches and tables set up to eat at. However, there are no places to retrieve food from and the tables do not have any edibles on them. In fact, cafeterias are found to be cleaner than other areas in the level. But if one is lucky, there may be vending machines in the cafeteria that will include bottles of almond water inside them.
Survival Guide:
The main difficulties this level presents are the lack of a provided source of light, the amount of dangerous entities in it, and the difficulty of finding an exit. If one is aware they are about to enter the level, they should make sure to have a portable source of artificial light. Having said that, light is crucial, as most entities in the level will shy away from a light source, due to them not being used to it.
If one happens to enter the level without a light, they should navigate the halls silently while listening for noises and avoiding classrooms. Entities wandering the level still make audible noise if the wanderer is completely quiet. Note, though, that most creatures in the level will stay in classrooms until possible prey is detected.
Finding an exit is difficult, but not impossible. So far, there are only three confirmed exits, each of which rarely appear. See the Entrances and Exits section for more details.
Resources:
As said above, there are few resources to be found in this level that are useful. Almond water, Permachalk, and rarely, working Chromebooks with wi-fi access can be found.
Almond Water:
Safe almond water for drinking can be found in both the vending machines mentioned in Cafeterias, and sometimes in working water fountains scattered throughout the level. It is recommended one stock up on almond water bottles due to their portability if one finds a cafeteria.
Permachalk:
Permachalk can be found in classrooms and can be used to mark walls permanently, as its name suggests. Many use it to mark where they have already been, and it makes it easier to narrow down places to look for an exit from the level.
Although it has been removed from the level to test how it is chemically composed, no difference was found between it and normal chalk. It is assumed that it has been affected by the Desolation phenomena and thus is why it marks it leaves are permanent.
Chromebooks:
Often, these items are found damaged or unusable inside classrooms on desks or on the floor. There is a possibility of finding a chromebook cart somewhere in Level 6 with a large amount of undamaged chromebooks inside them that will already be logged into. It is possible to use them until they run out of battery, upon which they are useless, as there are no places to recharge them, due to a lack of electrical outlets in classrooms. Furthermore, upon exiting the level, these items no longer work. It is speculated there are multiple chromebook carts throughout Level 6, but so far this theory hasn't been proved.
Entities:
There are several entities throughout the level. Some are unique to the level, while others are present throughout the Backrooms, such as Hounds. For instance, there have been reports of shadowy figures of people with blue lights flashing faintly in them that hover throughout the level, simply observing, and of strange, box-like creatures that can sometimes be found in the corners of rooms or in lockers waiting to ambush people exploring the level and trap them inside it. While these reports are unconfirmed, they make it apparent that either the level is highly infested with entities or has a psychological effect on those who enter it.
Entrances:
- This level can be entered through delving deep into the boiler room of the Hotel.
- Going too deep in the Ocean will result in being rapidly sucked downward in the water, passing out, and then waking up wet in a gym of this level.
- Entering the school in the Dark Suburbs will result in no-clipping into this level within five minutes of being in the building, as was found by experimenters timing the transition upon the entrance's discovery.
- It can occasionally be entered by spending too much time in the same dark area, upon which one will no-clip here from the level they were in.
Exits:
- Rarely, one may come across a lit-up, undamaged section of the school. Past this lit-up section will always be a set of closed, white-painted doors. Running into these white doors will cause one to no-clip through them and into the sublevel of Darkness, known as "The Light". If one walks to these doors it is unlikely the wanderer will no-clip and instead will physically collide with them.
- It is possible to chance upon a janitor's broom leaning up against a door marked simply "Utility". Going through this door will lead to the Piped-lined Halls.
- Going to the browsing history of a chromebook and pressing the last closed page will not lead to said page; instead, it will lead to a google search for "Vacation". Pressing the seventh link will cause one to no-clip through the ground and into the Ocean. Said exit was discovered by chance and was spread by rumor, but it has been verified to be legitimate.
