Level 174 is the 175th level of the Backrooms.

Description

Level 174 is a seemingly endless level with a town made up of huge modern-day households. There are no other types of buildings found on this level. This level has a day-night cycle exactly like the Frontrooms. Each house looks exactly the same on this level. No two or more houses will look different. Streets in this level also look identical, making it difficult to navigate this level as each yard has the exact same number of trees, mailboxes, plants, and bushes, all looking exactly the same.

Because of this, it is very easy for a Wanderer to get lost. Every street name is also the same: Langston Ave.

Each house as stated earlier is modern and each layout is exactly the same in each house. Each house, however, is decorated completely differently than the rest. Some of the furniture vary in color and design, as well as it's the era that the furniture in question was made in the Frontrooms. For example, one might see a lamp predating the very early 1900s. Each house has two (2) doors: The front door, and the back door. Each door is locked and will not be unlocked until you knock on the door and ask "May I come in?"

Each house has the same types of rooms, such as:

  • Bedrooms
  • Living Rooms
  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Basements
  • Hallways
  • Attic
  • Dining Room

A Faceling entity will open the door for you a few moments later and refers to his/herself as the owner of this household. They will ask what the purpose of your visit is, which you can respond to whatever your intentions are. Often times they will refuse you entry to their household if you have malicious intent. After you are granted access, they will give you a tour around their household. They will then ask if you plan to stay.

Two things can happen depending on your response. They are listed below.

Each location of the rooms is exactly the same in each house, as stated earlier. The sizes of each room is also the exact same in every household found on this level. For some reason, each house has 2 sets of bathrooms: Those reserved for males, and those reserved for females. In fact, according to interviews from Wanderers on this level, they get a "hotel or apartment vibe".

Each room will now be described:

The Entrance

The entrance is pretty self-explanatory. It's the entrance of the house and can show up on the front door, and the back door as well. You can find coat hangers here and other decorations such as drawers, closets, paintings, etc.

The Living Room

The living rooms are actually the second largest room you can find in any household. They each vary in appearance, but the most common appearance is couches, carpets, shelves, drawers, televisions, and coffee tables. Wanderers often meet up in these areas to chat, rest, and eat. Some Wanderers have found game consoles and have actually managed to set up these gaming consoles to play around. Video games on these consoles are often random and sometimes they don't work, or don't have any games.

It has been reported by several Wanderers and researchers that these games actually have a positive effect on your sanity. Several titles found in these gaming systems are the same ones that can be found in the Frontrooms.

Bedrooms

Each household has the same number of bedrooms: Six (6) total bedrooms. There is one extra bedroom, but it is reserved for the Faceling entity that owns the household. The bedroom door to a specific bedroom is always locked and can only be opened by the Faceling. Reports from Wanderers who have peeked inside have reported seeing just a normal bedroom. Each bedroom has the same things inside: Beds, closets, drawers, dressers, a desk with a laptop on it, a chair, and a nightstand next to the bed. Often times you can find a sofa chair, a pullout couch, or a bunk bed in one of these bedrooms.

To claim a bedroom, just ask the Faceling for a room, and he will give you a room key which you can use to lock or unlock your bedroom door. The Faceling entity will also show you your bedroom. You can decorate it however you want, so long as you follow the "house rules". Failing to follow the rules more than three (3) times will result in you being evicted from the household. The Faceling will tell you the rules, as each house has its own set of rules.

Pets, if any found throughout the Backrooms, are allowed so long as they don't make a huge mess, and you clean up after it.

Kitchen

The kitchen's appearance is always that of a restaurant's kitchen like found in the Frontrooms. Meaning you can find fryers, freezers, a storage room, a grill, etc. You can also find shelves and crates stocked with food, different beverages found in the Frontrooms, Almond water, Cashew water, and very rarely, Luck O' Milk. You can also find Royal Rations here and all the food and drinks found on this level are tested to be safe for consumption.

You can take as much food and drinks as you want, as shelves, and crates seem to refill themselves when they are low on supplies or are completely empty. Though, they only refill when no one is looking. It is unknown where these supplies come from. A popular theory is the food and drinks come from the Frontrooms themselves. This is unconfirmed.

Dining Rooms

The dining rooms are the first largest rooms in each household. They all have long tables with fancy tablemats and chairs. You can either make food yourself or wait for a Faceling entity known as "waiters" to come and serve you. They work specifically around the kitchen and dining room to prepare and serve food. Several reports have shown you can befriend these Facelings and you can even help around. The dining room has several long tables and chairs. The reason for this many tables and chairs for a single household is unknown.

Bathrooms

Each household has 4 bathrooms. One in the basement, one on the first floor, and two on the second floor. On the second floor, however, one bathroom is reserved for males, and the other for females. There are signs on the door that let you know which is which. There are no consequences for not following these rules, but it still isn't advised to walk into the wrong bathroom, mainly because that's just a no. Getting caught using the wrong bathrooms noclips you to the basement.1 Bathrooms have toilets, sinks, and a bathtub, or shower. Bathrooms also refill themselves in soap, shampoo, and towels. Every evening, the bathrooms refill themselves, and the towels found here clean themselves during the evening too.

The Basement

The basement might be the most confusing part of this level. Each household has its own basement, and each basement is connected to the other via hallways and rooms. Some halls may be dark, others may be newly renovated, and others may just be normal-looking basements. It is much colder down in the basements, so it's recommended to bring extra outerwear such as sweaters and jackets. Flashlights or headlights are also recommended for darker areas. Smilers can often be found in these dark areas but very rarely. Some of these hallways can be really confusing so a method of leaving behind a trail or leaving signs on the floors or signs are highly recommended.

Most Wanderers have already left these signs in the form of arrows drawn on the wall as well as locations where the arrows lead. Some Wanderers have set up bases and outposts here in the basements. See more in bases, outposts, and communities.

The Attic

Nothing much can be found in these attics, except boxes and crates with random stuff. Attics are often dark, and it is recommended to bring a source of light. Faint whispers can also be heard and can have an effect on your sanity, so bring some Almond water. Despite this area being the darkest in the level, there are no Smilers found up here.

Day-Night Cycles

As stated at the beginning, the day-night cycle is exactly the same as the day-night cycle in the Frontrooms. During the day, Wanderers are free to walk around and explore the level. During the evening, street lights will turn on as a warning to go back indoors. At night, the outside area of the level is the most dangerous. Many dangerous entities can be found such as Wretches, Hounds, Dullers, Smilers, Clumps, Skin-Stealers, Crawlers, and The Mangled. Those are a few of the many entities that can be spotted during the night. At sunrise, the entities will begin to hide and will not show up again until nighttime. Then it is safe to explore the level.

Discovery of Level 145

Level 145 was discovered by M.E.G operatives on level 11 when they found a house similar to the ones found on this level and went inside it. They then found themselves inside a household and when they turned around to leave after exploring the house, they found themselves on a completely new level. After further exploration, they returned to level 11 and reported the newly found level.

Entrances
