Level 514 is entropy. This is the end.
Description
Level 514 is barren and infinite, devoid of any movement or wind. Weed and grass overgrowth lay scattered across the soft dirt ground like mold spores across dark oat bread. The Ryegrass and Alopecurus pratensi drip with small pellets of moisture, reminiscent of the neck sweat of a human before their slaughter. A thick and dense mist shrouds the level, choking the air and forming small water droplets at the back of throats like yeast spores. The fog lays upon the landscape like a suffocating grey plastic bag, tightly pressed against the never-ending terrain, leading to perceived myopia.1

Miniature, crooked trees and bushes sprout from the ground like malnourished maggots, uncommon and no taller than a few meters. The initial entry is delineated as eerily tranquil with a relaxing sense of comfort that fatigues the prefrontal cortex, making the wanderer more vulnerable to a predator. The comforting feeling is quickly twisted into something sinister as the erosion starts.
The Erosion Effect
The few wanderers who have survived this level have described it as complete environmental, physical, mental, and even spiritual deterioration. These states of entropy are periods differentiated by the intensity of the effects. The first state is initiated after a mere 5 minutes upon arrival and, once these one witnesses these first signs of degradation, it is already too late. The states of entropy are as follows:
State 1:
This state is gradual and subtle like wakefulness fading into slumber, often dismissed by wanderers as their own dwindling sanity and perception of reality. The state lasts approximately 20 minutes, with the effects slowly increasing in intensity as time passes. The exponential nature of the increase further contributes to the impending doom and anxiety of the wanderer. This is the only opportunity to leave before everything starts to crumble.
Some effects documented in State 1 are:
- Tintinnabulation2 in ears.
- Excess secretion of rheum.3
- Rapid desiccation4 of skin.
- Vigorous contemplation of life and reality.
- Accelerating wind speeds.

State 2:
As the effects of State One crescendo into an inevitable and shattering breaking point, new effects start to take form. Attempts to flee are considerably more arduous during this state due to the extreme malaise and trauma that is induced. The state also lasts for 20 minutes, however is known to be perceived as hours by the prey. The effects of State One are still very prevalent and linger like roots.

Some new effects described in State 2 are:
- Blood seeping out of ears.
- Illusion of bubbling or boiling under the skin.
- Rapid appearance of gangrene on fingers.
- Mass sentiments of dread, paranoia, and derealization.
- The sense of slugs or insects under feet.
- Auditory, visual, and olfactory hallucinations.
- Extreme wind speeds and rain.
State 3:
In this state, the erosion of the entire fabric of reality starts to take place. The very existence of you, the Backrooms, and all that you perceive to be real starts to be questioned as you spiral into complete disorder. This is when they appear. This is your end.
