Description:
The best example of this phenomenon is in level-0("The Lobby") of the Backrooms, where on some walls, and down dark halls, there are dark openings into pitch black areas.
Frequency:
This phenomenon is easily identifiable in level-0 of the backrooms, and is less easy to define in other levels due to certain conditions unique to other levels which may obscure the ability to tell weather the signs are right to conclude that it is one of this phenomenon. It varies in commonness, mostely depending on if it is neer a dark space or not, though it tends to repeat in areas down dimely-lit hallways and in small dark spaces.
Relevant Parties:
Nobody if anyone ever has been able to go into the dark space and survive it, and there are no documentations to prove it. This area is commonly documented by images to be the dwellings of frowners and smilers, which may give reason to beleave that this is where they reside as their home.
Discovery:
The phenomenon does not have any apparent start to it's sightings. It started to be seen as soon as footage of the backrooms ever started to come in.
Additional Information:
There may be a possability that these dark areas are entrences to a completely different room-type that has not been documented yet, and which may be the home of smilers or frowners. They are a home if only one of a smiler or frowner is seen in it in a period of time, and it may be just a dwelling or means of passage if both smilers and frowners along with possable other entities have been seen back-to-back. - Feel free to comment and share your thoughts, because I think I very well might be the first person to ever touch on the topic of what those dark spaces are, and especially why they show pitch-black even when bright lights are neer it, though the backrooms are notoriouse for unnatural phenomenon anyway. But still, share your thoughts. I feel that this phenomenon must be brought to attention, as there is little to no information that I have seen, requarding exactly what this phenomenon is, and if it is.

- If you see a grinning or frowning face inside, make sure to keep eye-contact with them until the they are completely out of view as you walk away.
