A photo taken of the second floor of Level 231.

Level 231 is the 232nd Level of the Backrooms. It takes the appearance of a small shopping mall similar to the ones found in the Frontrooms. This level was discovered on 22/11/2017 when a wanderer took an elevator to this level.

Description

Level 231 is a small mall complex that consists of 8 floors, a parking lot, and an outside area. The first 5 floors all take the same appearance except for the variation of the shops in them. Each one of these floors have a moderate amount of stores, three elevators and an escelator. Stores that are reported to be in business are electronic supplies stores in the 5th floor, some cutlery stores and a candy store in the 2nd floor, all clothing stores in the 3rd floor, and a cafeteria and fragrance stores in the ground level. The ground level contains a backdoor right next to the elevators that leads to the parking lot. The parking lot is an unsafe area, as Smilers have been reported to reside in this area. The 4th floor is a miniature amusement park, consisting of rides such as some bumper cars and a miniature ferris wheel, as well as a merry-go-round and a billiard pool table. The 6th floor has only one door leading to what seems to be a group of classrooms. The 7th floor is a cinema and the 8th floor is a gym. The 6th, 7th and 8th floors are all inaccessible via the elevators, but can be accessed through the stairs. This level has no day-night cycle and is always stuck at daytime.

Entities

Facelings are known to inhabit the various stores and services in the level. However, this level appears to have an effect on them known as "The Apartheid Effect". This effect is one of the many factors affecting the safety of this level, and wanderers are advised to stay away from Facelings as much as possible, should they find themselves in this level.

Hounds can also be found throughout the level, and while they are more aggressive towards wanderers in this level, they appear to act more docile towards Facelings here, and are often kept by Facelings as pets.

Elevators are more commonly known to be replaced by the eponymous Entity 81.

Other reported entities are Deathmoths and Death Rats. They only inhabit dark and seemingly abandoned parts of the mall, however, such as out of business shops.

Bases, Outposts and Communities

There is only one known Outpost in this level, known as The Tolerant Store.

The Tolerant Store

The Tolerant Store is a store lead by a group of wandereres that wanted to fight off the hostility of this level. They are open for trade and will allow you to use the store as a place for resting before continuing your journey.

The Apartheid Effect

The Apartheid Effect is a phenomenon known to affect most entities on this level, namely Facelings and Hounds. This effect causes the entites to act hateful and discriminative towards other entities.
For example, Facelings that work in this level's cafeteria may not serve wanderers or serve them harmful drinks, such as Cashew Water. In some rare occasions, entities with this effect may also attack and be extremely hostile and vigilant towards other entities.

Entrances And Exits

Entrances

*No-clipping through the enterance to a mall complex in Level 11 will send you here.

*Some wanderers reported no-clipping through a cinema screen in Level 68 sent them here instead of Level 94.

*Going to the ground floor of any level using any modern looking elevator will rarely cause wanderers to be sent here.

Exits

*Pressing the 6th, 7th or 8th floor buttons inside any elevator will lead you to said levels respectively.

*Exiting the mall has a small chance of sending you to Level 11. This method is highly discouraged, however, as the area outside the mall is insfested with hostile entities.

*Entering a parked car outside the mall and closing your eyes in it for 15 seconds will lead you to Level 69. This method is yet again highly discouraged, as the area outside the mall is insfested with hostile entities.

*Taking the elevator to the underground parking lot will send you to Level 71.
