Description

The Manila Rooms are a series of isolated, square rooms with thick walls only accessible from Level 0, named for the unique beige color of their wallpaper. Each room has minimal furnishings which vary slightly between appearances, usually no more than a table and chair, and anywhere from 1 to 4 entrances.

The Manila Rooms are commonly used as meeting points for wanderers. The Manila Rooms will always appear in the same location for everyone when discovered and allows wanderers to freely meet. This leads to wanderers appearing to fade into existence upon entering. Care should be taken to avoid entering from the same entrance at the same time.

Some of the rooms may differ in subtle ways. For example, one room might have a slightly different arrangement of furniture, or the wallpaper might have minor variations in pattern. Additionally, the number and placement of entrances can vary, with some rooms having more entrances than others. These differences can make each room feel unique, even though they share the same general characteristics.

Very rarely, a room can be noticeably bigger or smaller than the others. These size variations are uncommon but can be useful for setting up bases, outposts and communities.

Bases, Outposts and Communities

Refuge

In the largest room of The Manila Rooms, there exists a well-established base known as Refuge. This base is a bustling hub of activity, filled with wanderers who have found refuge within the room’s spacious confines. The room’s size allows for a variety of makeshift structures and communal areas, including sleeping quarters, a dining area, and a central meeting space.

The inhabitants of Refuge, in desperate attempts to escape The Manila Rooms, have used radio signals to communicate with wanderers outside of The Manila Rooms. They hope that these external wanderers can bring the necessary materials to create a device capable of teleporting a wanderer out of The Manila Rooms. This ongoing effort has become a central focus for many within Refuge.

Anomalies

The lighting in The Manila Rooms is nearly identical to that of Level 0 and produces the same irritating noise. However, the brightness of these lights varies greatly and is known to fluctuate over time, causing occasional periods of total darkness.

Standard entities have never been observed in The Manila Rooms; however, knocking and banging noises have been reported coming from within the walls, leading some to believe that one or more entities may be present within them. These noises are reportedly loudest during periods when the lights are off.
