Level 154.2 is The Sub Level Between Level 154 and Level 155 of The Backrooms.

Overview

Level 154.2, commonly known as "The Neon Express" is an expansive complex of railways and subway stations which travel to many Backrooms levels. Most of the level is adorned with glowing neon lights. The neon lights slowly change colors in a fading rainbow sequence.

The Neon Station is the largest area in Level 154. It is typically the first area one will end up in upon noclipping to Level 154.2 The Neon Station resembles a futuristic train station, complete with color-changing neon lights and polished tiles. Sleek, black pillars support the station's structure. Loud speakers can also be typically found mounted on the ceiling, alerting wanderers when a train departs or arrives. The area also contains several abandoned shops that mysteriously restock their supplies daily. Cushioned seats line the station's walls, sometimes holding bottled Almond Water.

In order to board a train, wanderers must seek out reception desks that are scattered throughout the level. These generally appear once every 250 feet, most of which having a Facelings behind the desk. These tickets cost 1 bottle of Almond Water.

The Neon Express

The Neon Express is the train that transports wanderers to various levels of The Backrooms. It resembles a regular high speed bullet train from The Frontrooms, albeit with neon lights. The exterior of the train is decked with a vivid glow of said neon lights, providing a relaxing ambiance to wanderers. The Neon Express's doors open automatically when the train comes to a complete stop after arriving at its destination. When one enters the train, the speakers inside will play a vibrant but calm song to the wanderer. The walls between each pair of doors are equipped with comfortable, padded seats that have an average length of two meters, allowing for wanderers to stretch out and rest.

In order to board The Neon Express, a Faceling will require a ticket. As aforementioned, these tickets can be received at the reception desks. However, attempting to board the train without a ticket will lead to Level 154.25, which is commonly considered the antithesis of Level 154.2

The neon lights constantly change colors in a slow, fading pattern, usually cycling through a mostly random sequence. One may also notice digital clocks near the ceiling inside the trains. Between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, the neon lights inside the train, no matter their previous color, will switch to a soft, calming white. The music will also switch to a more calm, quiet tone.

The Neon Express also travels on several lines, each running through different levels. The Red Line primarily covers more hazardous and dangerous levels, making it a risky route. The Green Line travels through more safer levels, typically classified as Class 0, 1, or 2, offering a more secure journey. Finally, there is the Neon Line, named for its route through levels that feature a neon theme. The lights outside the train indicate the current line it is traveling on; blue and purple lights signal that the train is currently travelling on the Neon Line.

Thanks to The Architects' efforts, the trains in Level 154.2 are powered by a modified Hermes Drive, able to utilize both spatial anomalies in order to perform a controlled no-clip into other levels. This gave it the ability to travel to levels in mere minutes, with more major stops appearing more frequently; Level 399 and Level 1 being examples of such. The usage of spatial anomalies also allows there to be multiple trains at once, making it more accessible for wanderers to travel in and out of Level 154.2

Snack Stall

The Snack Stall is a slightly smaller area of Level 154.2, It resembles a normal snack stall, adorned with neon lights. This area sells a variety of foods and beverages, some of which are known in The Frontrooms. The Snack Stall is usually ran by Facelings. However, wanderers can also volunteer to help, if they so choose. The Snack Stall has multiple chairs and tables for people to eat at. Although the food and drinks in the Snack Stall are mostly free, it is still expected for wanderers to have basic table manners and common sense. If a wanderer makes a commotion, they will be led away from the Snack Stall. The wanderer will then have to wait a couple hours before they can return to the Snack Stall again.

TVs from the 90s and above can also be found attached to the walls. Although they function quite similarly to TVs in The Frontrooms, the channels that they offer are known to change every so often. Sometimes these TVs can be out of service, either due to them being under maintenance, or being replaced by newer models. The Snack Stall also has a few arcade games in a separate area to keep wanderers entertained. Each game costs one bottle of Almond Water to play.

History

It is unsure when exactly Level 154.2 came to exist. It was first discovered in 1912, when a group of 5 explorers wandered into a neon tunnel in Level 1. Upon learning about the trains' abilities to enter other levels, Level 154.2 began to be inhabited by various groups. Today, it is home to around 11 different sovereign groups, totaling around 55,600 people.

When The Architects settled the level, they constructed the Hermes Drive, which made the Neon Express more efficient and more precise with it's no-clips. This caused many to flock to Level 154, seeking the fast, efficient travel it provides. Level 154.2 also facilitated the colonization of many levels, as wanderers have accidentally discovered other levels via its lines.

Entities

Facelings are mildly common in this level. They typically act friendly towards wanderers. Their main purpose is to provide for Level 154.2 giving out train tickets, cleaning, and other various tasks which help to preserve the station.

However, certain child Facelings may be aggressive towards wanderers, so it is greatly advised to be cautious around Facelings which are not performing any tasks.
