- {$two}
- {$three}
Level 264 is the 265th Level of the Backrooms.
Description
Level 264 is a large island, nicknamed 'Smiler Island', situated in the middle of a pitch black ocean. It appears to be approximately 150 km2. Level 264 is mostly devoid of life, with the exception of some wanderers. The only truly numerous life form on the island is a very large population of Smilers. The island itself is composed of a mineral rich soil, black in coloration, with large mountains surrounding a crater within it's centre. Level 264 is composed of three main areas with large stretches of lifeless ground between them.
The Crater
The Crater is a large space, located in the centre of Level 264. It is circular in shape, about 3 km in diameter, and surrounded by mountains to the north, south, east and most of the west. This area is where wanderers will first appear in the level. Smilers are also strangely absent from this area, meaning it is the location of most of the bases and outposts within the level. The ground of The Crater is made up of a hard metal-like material, theorised to have come from some kind of meteoroid. The Crater is estimated to have around 500 wanderers living inside.
The Woods
The Woods is a large forest comprised of trees named 'Bonewood Trees'. These trees have black bark but have bright, white wood in the middle. This wood is very strong and has been used in some of the outposts around Level 264. The Woods surround the mountains and cover 70% of the island. This is where most of the Smiler population reside and thus is also the most dangerous area. Within these woods are plants with pale berries, they are the only known edible resource within Level 264.
The Beach
The Beach is the area of Level 264 that we know the least about. Few expeditions have been launched to this part of the island and none have yet returned. A diary found within The Woods, on a gathering mission, provided a brief description of The Beach. The Beach has "black sand, like the sand near volcanoes" which is described as being "jagged and painful to step on". The diary goes on to describe the water surrounding the level as "tar-like" and "bitter". The whereabouts of the diary owner or their group are unknown.
The Smilers
The Smilers of Level 264 appear to be more aggresive and oppurtunistic than other Smilers. These Smilers also appear to be much more co-operative with each other and have been observed to use simple pack strategies. Recently, many dead Smilers have been found, when approached they seem to melt into the soil. The numbers of corpses found have been growing slowly but exponentially. This hints that the Smiler is not the apex predator within Level 264. The ASG are conducting research to try and figure out why this is happening.
Bases, Outposts and Communities
Crater Town
- This group is composed of around 350 wanderers, situated within The Crater. This group is very peaceful but anxious and will offer refuse to trade if they believe you are any kind of threat to them.
- This group has built many small buildings within The Crater using Bonewood. They rarely send out any expeditions and rely on the ASG to trade with them.
The Anti-Smiler Group
- The Anti-Smiler Group is composed of around 150 wanderers, situated within The Crater. This group is open for trading and welcoming to other wanderers.
- Their main goal is to kill all the Smilers in Level 264 and harvest all the materials within The Woods. They regularly send gathering and hunting expeditions.
