Description

Level 2.1 is a sub-level situated between Level 2 and Level 3 of the Backrooms. Its unique, concrete-based architecture is divided into two distinct areas: The Interior Area and The Exterior Area.

The Interior Area

Missing alt text.

A seemingly infinite maze of concrete pillars and walls.

The Interior is a concrete labyrinth that stretches endlessly in all directions. The structure of the interior seems unstable, as if it could collapse at any moment. The temperature in this level ranges from 10°C to 25°C1. If you venture deeper, approximately 1,000 meters down, you will find that the lower sections are flooded with Liquid Pain, leaving no reason for you to proceed further. However, you might encounter fountains that release Liquid Pain, though it appears to dissipate immediately upon contact with the concrete floor. The air in this area reeks of decay, and some sections are filled with hydrogen cyanide gas, typically found in areas with temperatures around 35°C2.

Special Areas

These are sections distinct from the main interior:

  • Empty Space
Missing alt text.

The empty space that looks eerie in Level 2.1.

Empty space seems to be separated from the rest of the interior. This area has temperatures ranging from -10°C to -35°C3. The wind here is strong enough to potentially push you into the void below. If you fall, what happens remains unknown4.

This area was once a settlement for the B.N.T.G. group. After the Level 2.1 Breakdown, the base was abandoned, along with the individuals left behind in this level. Entities seem to avoid this area, but if they detect prey, they will enter regardless. The corpses of those who once lived here are immune to decay, immovable, and indestructible. In this area, you can find an elevator that leads to the Exterior Area.

The Exterior Area

Missing alt text.

Endless concrete blocks form a lifeless maze in Level 2.1

The Exterior Area is characterized by a flat expanse of concrete tiles, scattered with concrete blocks of varying sizes and lengths. The temperature in this level is approximately 30°C5. Every hour, rain composed of Liquid Pain falls. However, some of the concrete blocks may contain tunnels where one can seek shelter. Similarly to the fountains in the interior area, the liquid pain dissipates immediately upon contact with the concrete surface.

Entities

All entities in Level 2.1 are made of concrete, making direct confrontation extremely dangerous and best avoided. Additionally, they exhibit behavior that differs from their counterparts in other levels.

Entities in the Interior

These entities usually linger around fountains. They are larger, faster, and stronger than typical Bursters.

Found in packs of 10 to 15, these entities are small and swift, but they are relatively fragile compared to others.

These entities dwell in dark areas, hiding behind walls to ambush unsuspecting victims. Upon spotting prey, they will No-Clip through the walls to grab the victim and drag them to a location approximately 750 meters deep. However, they will not kill their prey as long as the victim still has enough strength to navigate the labyrinth. The reason they do this may be because they enjoy playing with their prey or to prevent the victim from being able to resist them.

These entities inhabit empty space and nest there. They are typically passive unless approached with food.

Entities in the Exterior

These entities appear approximately 30 seconds before Liquid Pain rain begins. Unlike other entities in Level 2.1, Warning Kites are not made of concrete.

These entities hide in tunnels within concrete blocks, lying in wait for victims seeking shelter from the Liquid Pain rain.

Phenomena

  • The Whisper

If you remain in this level for 3 to 4 hours, you may begin to hear low, resonant whispers that are indistinct and difficult to comprehend. After this occurs, entities in the area will become increasingly aggressive and actively seek you out.

  • Morse Code

Any attempt to record audio, video, or other sound-related data from Level 2.1 will result in the recording capturing a repeating Morse code message6. When decoded, the message translates to "ALIVE THINK" The pattern loops endlessly.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

If you find a concrete-tiled floor in Level 2 and stand on it, the floor will collapse beneath you and send you directly to Level 2.1. Alternatively, you may encounter a gray, concrete-patterned door, which offers a safer passage.

Exits

Exiting Level 2.1 involves finding doors located in the Exterior Area, categorized into seven distinct types. Additionally, exits exist within the Interior Area as well. If you locate a piece of pure white concrete and No-Clip into it, that the chance of this occurring is low, it will take you back to Level 2. However, if you're unlucky, it may send you to Level 203 instead.

    Welcome back! :)

    Why are they still trying?
Will they do it even if it costs them their lives?

I hope they will come to see these messages.

I will wait for your answer behind the door…

But they probably wouldn't care about a concrete block's question.
