Level TBD- ""

"Imagine a world where thoughts speak louder than words—one in which emotions are mightier than the sword. This may sound reminiscent of a dream. But this place exists as a living fantasy; one that blurs the line between reality and fiction. There are many bizarre and mysterious places in the Backrooms, but few can compare to the enigma that is Level TBD."

Sky of Level TBD

Description

Level TBD is an otherworldly sea of clouds, stretching into the distance as far as the eye can see. Deep hues of pink dominate the sky and puffy clouds, giving the scene a dreamlike appearance. Time here appears to be at a standstill, as there is no natural movement of clouds nor an apparent day/night cycle. This land, timeless and whimsical, defies all logic. Scattered throughout this miracle of nature are tremendous glass domes—homes to dreams of their own, thus labeled "dreamhouses".

Dreamhouses

Inside these mystical structures are pieces of various worlds: some magical and typical of the Backrooms, others reminiscent of the Frontrooms, and some alien to both these realms. The outdoor environments inside dreamhouses can resemble any setting imaginable: those of fairytales, those from science fiction, and so much more. Replication of our native reality is but one of many possibilities. Like snowflakes, no two are ever the same.

Entry is as simple as finding a door in the exterior walls of the dreamhouse, as is exiting. There is not a creature to be seen within; these spaces are as peaceful as can be when undisturbed. The only hazard when traveling through these spectacles of nature is oneself.

Dreamhouse of Level TBD

Despite the lack of clouds inside dreamhouses, emotions rouse many forms of weather, all depending on how one feels. Negative emotions tend to manifest more destructive forces of nature, whereas positive emotions often bring forth the more serene side: anger sparks fierce tempests, sorrow brings the rain, and joy rains sunshine upon the site. These are but a few of the many possibilities. Emotions are complex, as they vary and mix—similarly to the weather in its fluctuating intensity.

Hearts of Crystal and Souls of Light

Within dreamhouses, two more peculiar anomalies were brought to light: a luminous crystal cluster, and an ethereal entity with an otherworldly radiance. Both react to emotions, much like dreamhouse weather. Due to this, it is evident there is some form of connection between them.

The crystals have been christened heartstone for their ability to react to the full emotional spectrum of the human heart, changing properties completely based on emotional stimuli. They appear to be capable of growing on any surface, regardless of material. However, they will only grow on materials naturally found within a dreamhouse. In its natural state, it does not do anything except change colors. Unlike firesalt, these crystals cannot be melted down. In order to utilize its effects, one must pulverize them into a fine powder.

Given the name psychic salt, this powder can do many different things, all depending on the colors of the crystal when it was broken down. Once crushed, the color it has is retained, no longer able to react to emotions around it. When thrown at an entity, it can have many possible effects, and they can be enhanced if the user has recently consumed seer tea, or has a natural affinity for psychic abilities.

There are no entities found within the pinkish sky. Within dreamhouses however, there is an entity that appears following harsh storms. Dubbed Light Sprites, these mysterious visitors are floating spheres of light that radiate and pulsate with an otherworldly glow. Their colors will change depending on the emotions of those nearby, and they become hostile towards sources of negative emotions. They are capable of phasing through solid objects, and with dazzling gleams of color, these spectral beings maintain peace within their ethereal habitats. Given that they have no physical form, they attack in a seemingly transcendental way. There is no physical harm done, and victims claim it felt like their very being was under siege just by making contact with one.

Within various dreamhouses, small, dilapidated structures were discovered. Engraved onto them are hieroglyphics, which, when looked at by researcher and historian Dean Fallick, were identified to be ancient Egyptian. Most of this writing is praise and worship towards an unknown deity, although some depicts dreams and premonitions experienced by these ancient people, attributing it to this same being. What happened to these ancient inhabitants remains a mystery, however, a tablet made of an unidentified black stone and heartstone was found in the ruins of one of these shrines. The writing is as follows:

Sky of Level TBD

Sea of Clouds

The sky found outside dreamhouses has its own astonishing properties. Anyone present will be struck with feelings of peaceful, dreamlike nostalgia, which will persist until they enter a dreamhouse or leave the level. And many natural processes here are halted, much like the passage of time. This is not the case when change is consciously conceived, for this place reacts to human thoughts and enacts the mind's will. Traversing this boundless world of sky entails imagining the clouds moving in front of your feet as you walk.

Bases, Outposts and Communities

M.E.G. Base Zeta

M.E.G. Base Zeta is located inside an internally forested dreamhouse. Being the seventh main base of the Major Explorer Group, it has about 100 personnel, and only half of its members are actively stationed at the base. The remaining half of members are typically out on exploration missions and performing various field research.

Wakefield

There is a small community accumulating in a dreamhouse not far from Base Zeta. The residents of this small town dubbed it Wakefield. Currently, it has a population of 42 residents, including author and poet Theodore Murley.

Arcanum Station Lucidity

A group known as Arcanum has a research outpost in a dreamhouse with the inner appearance of a crystal forest. They are comprised of scientists and psychics who have come together with a unified objective. However, the group's origin is kept a secret, and their aims remain ambiguous. They claim to be "seekers of truth and knowledge" and that their raison d'être is to learn the true nature of existence. While not an ally of the M.E.G per se, they will assist with research if it is of interest to them.

[Witness Statement]

The Account of Theodore Murley

This place offers tranquility to the soul; a sanctuary hidden amidst halls beset by fear.
Head in the clouds, pen in hand… Here, I feel at peace. I remember many a day ago, when I was still in my home in the Frontrooms. I would write fantastical tales and contes of enchanting worlds. Never in my wildest dreams could I fathom that I would someday find myself in such a place.

My arrival in the Backrooms was a dreadful one compared to most. I would prefer not to elaborate on it, but in a time devoid of hope, my prayers were answered in the most incredible way. I traversed this field of magic and wonder for what must have been days until I first encountered the M.E.G. Leading a small team, a man by the name of Leon Hendricks found me, stupefied and lost. He was sent to explore this place from somewhere known as Level 710. He informed me that I was in the Backrooms, and the stories he told me were fascinating. It seems this place is but one of many strange worlds. He had begun to set up an encampment in a nearby dreamhouse, which later became Base Zeta.

Ever since then, I've been helping members of the M.E.G with their efforts on this level. We even discovered a small community that had formed, all wanderers who had found their way here by chance. I decided to settle here. It's a relaxing little village, and I wanted to continue my fictional writing. We also discovered an outpost of a group known as Arcanum, and to my surprise, they seemed to know we were coming. Psychic powers? The Backrooms continue to astound me.

Entrances And Exits

Entrances

There is a passing rumor that if someone sleeps in any outdoor environment and has a lucid dream, when they awake, they will find themselves in a dreamhouse of the same environment. This is unconfirmed.

At the end of a specific hallway within Level TBD, a peculiar object can be found that when gazed into, shows the wanderer somewhere within Level TBD. The location always seems to bear spiritual or sentimental significance to the wanderer. To travel here, one need simply move through to the other side. This object was designated the Fae Wheel by Arcanum researcher Dean Fallick.

The main entrance utilized by the M.E.G. is a mysterious sphere of glass held above a great stone pedestal. Found nestled in a valley surrounded by a ring of hills on Level 710, it appears to contain pinkish clouds on the inside. Dubbed the "Mind's Eye" by members of Arcanum, it can take you to the cloudy sea of this level. To travel to level TBD, a wanderer must put both of their hands on the stone pedestal, close their eyes, and think about happy, nostalgic, or peaceful things.

A new ritual was discovered in Level 12 that takes you here.

Exits

While the clouds in the pink sky are solid enough to tread on, it is possible for wanderers to pass through clouds by imagining themselves phasing into them. As a wanderer falls down into the sea of clouds, they begin to feel at peace, like they weigh nothing, and as if they are fading away. After losing consciousness, they will soon awaken to find themselves somewhere new. The following places are possible destinations. It is possible there are many more:

[Announcement]

Trouble in Paradise

There have been recent reports of a mysterious figure wandering from dreamhouse to dreamhouse. When this "nightmare wanderer" enters a dome, it has drastic effects on internal weather. Witnesses describe a massive black whirlwind manifesting within. These tempests are fiercer than anything previously recorded in the Backrooms, and those caught inside the storms have yet to be found.

Currently, this figure has been sighted approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away from Base Zeta, but we remain on red alert. In the event that we have a close encounter, we want to be ready.

If you encounter this figure, do not interact with it! It is unknown who, or even what, this strange visitor is, but they are extremely dangerous.
