SURVIVAL DIFFICULTY:
Class unknown
- {$one}
- Time Dilation
- {$three}
Level -9, also known as "The Liminal Tranquility of The Acceptable Home", is the 10TH negative level of the Backrooms a geometrical well. It is a much more complicated dimension that what was originally thought.
Description:
Level -9 lacks of a full description; in fact, its appearance only becomes relevant in a 4D space-time. However, the 3D world represents it as a collection of locations named "The Main Palace", "The Space-Time Bubble", "Pure Air" and "The Firewall". No need for fancy names. It is unknown how this level still exists, but time is irrelevant.
"Rooms":
"Room -9.0" or "The Main Palace":
The Main Palace takes the appearance of an abandoned office skyscraper with 31 floors and a basement floor, resembling a building with Russian architectural style from the 1980s with a chaotic arrangement of rooms, similar to that of Level 0. The corridors are usually short, but those which connect to other levels are a notable exception. The only pieces of furniture in the level are occasional terminals that work as both entrances and exits and a few destroyed desks. Almost every floor has windows, which are arranged in an impossible manner and are present in every corridor.1 Breaking the windows is safe, but opening them causes the wanderer's mind to be filled with suicidal thoughts. In order to move to another floor, one can use the staircases and elevators. The walls are made of what seems to be white concrete, while the floor is made of dark oak wood and is covered in a vaguely pink carpet, which isn't present in the most decayed areas. The walls in the distance will appear to shift and rotate according to the wanderer's movements. Floor 0 has a cafeteria with food that regenerates every 36 hours, while Floor 1 has supplies appearing and disappearing at random, similarly to Level 1. The building is quite peaceful and calming overall, with everything one can hear being a storm on the outside and the noises that wanderers occasionally make. Every floor except the basement floor, Floor 21 and Floor 30 look like this.2 Floor 2 has Smilers lurking in the darker spots and is partially flooded, proceed with caution. Floor -1 however, the basement floor, is an unlit underground parking lot, with occasional cars able to work as an exit. It's structure is characterized by the presence of concrete pillars arranged in a grid-like pattern. It is possible to turn on the cars. Once inside, the respective keys will appear. Entry doesn't require said keys.
"Room -9.1" or "The Space-Time Bubble":
The Space-Time Bubble covers most of Floor 21. To enter, just proceed 5 meters into the floor. The area lacks of windows, staircases and elevators, making travelling to another floor entirely impossible. It's advised to bring a flashlight, due to the absence of light. The reason for the name of the zone is its permanently spherical geometry and its space-time of chaging size and shape. The walls will be shifting as the wanderer moves as stated above, but this time, every wall will do this, which represents a serious environmental hazard. The wanderer's best bet is to either find a door that leads to Totally Symmetrical or a hole in the floor leading to the floor below or Level 22. An old name for this section is Level -9.1, but it's quite incorrect.
"Room -9.2" or "Pure Air":

Picture taken in a severely distorted area of the level a few minutes before entering Pure Air.
Pure Air is what's considered to be the extirior to Level -9, it is a seemingly infinite glass plane with occasional buildings scattered around. There is no danger in exploring this area, but be aware of the storm! Entering every building leads back to The Main Palace.3 The only way to enter the extirior is by breaking a wall in the corridors, since opening a window only works as an exit. Occasionally, one may stumble upon a tree clearing. These trees are living creatures and seem to be just fine, regardless of the lack of resources, so it's unknown how or why they still exist, as they seem to be made of stone.
"Room -9.3" or "The Firewall":
The Firewall is Floor 30, located in The Main Palace. Entry into the floor is not feasible, due to the fact that, upon reaching the floor, a bunch of walls will move towards the wanderer, making the area entirely unexplorable without breaking the barrier. After one has entered, they will be crushed under their own weight, due to the extreme gravitational pull, which doesn't seem to affect the floor's structure. For this reason, under no circumstances should one attempt to explore the area.
Entities:
Some entities were mentioned above, but not all of them. Here are the other ones:
Facelings:
The level has a day-night cycle similar to Earth's. During nighttime, adult Facelings will be present in every floor that is suitable for life. They aren't very friendly, but none of them are hostile.
The Caretaker of the Semisphere:
HABITAT(S): N/A
My appearance is that of a male human 15-to-25-year-old, a musician to be precise, with brown eyes and white pupils, given my partial blindness. I suppose you may need a survival guide, and maybe even a photo of me (which you are never going to get). There isn't really much to say about me. I'm the creator of the level, I have a sort of "son" (more like a creation) and I am mostly docile.
Now what? Did I mention that I can manipulate space-time however I want?
Ah, yeah, "Do's and Don'ts"…
Do's and Don'ts:
Do:
Pretty much everything that isn't included in "Don'ts".
Don't:
- Provoke or harass him in any way.
- Question about his past.
- Interrupt him while he is playing the piano.
Thank you.
That's not what you were supposed to do.
Shut. I'm not a frog that you can dissect.
"Your Boss":
HABITAT(S): N/A
The entity that you call "Your Boss" is my child, my creation. Without it Level -9 wouldn't even exist in the first place. Don't worry, though. He isn't hostile.
Do's and Don'ts:
Do:
Stay away from Floor 30.
Don't:
Approach him in any way.
Bases, Outposts and Communities:
There are no known bases or outposts on this level; however, there is a small community.
The Feast o' The Negative:
- A community of 400 people.
- Usually open to trade.
- Notoriously friendly.
- Welcome new members.
- Are the main part of a group of communities known as "The Feast". The name is symbolic, given the infinite supplies.
- Are somewhat scared of the Caretaker, but they still consider him their friend.
- Have kept the entryways secret until further information could be provided.
Other outposts have been rumored, given the level's infinite size, but remain unconfirmed.
Wait, wait, wait. If you are willing to stay here, there are a few rules:
- Don't break the rules, dumbass.
- Don't look for me. I'm already very very near.
- Don't harass others and don't start fights.
- Don't be stupid.
If you are following all the rules, you shouldn't have problems. Enjoy your stay, I guess.
Entrances and Exits:
Entrances:4
- No-clipping has a very small chance of leading to this level. This isn't consistent.
- Following the "0, 1, 7, 9, 5, 4, 9, 7, 4, 2, 6, 5, 7, 2, 0, 1, 8, 3" route in Level -8 will take one here. This is the most common way to enter, although not recommended.
- Falling off of the fecal strip and into the white void below in Level 226 will always transport you to Level -9.
- The edges of Level -4.5 directly connect to this level.
- Doors in Level -1, Level 215 and Level 87 that are labelled "-9" work as entrances.6
- A bunch of terminals that occasionally appear in Level 4, when interacted with, work as an entryway. These will usually emit light very dimly.
- No-clipping in Level 990 is a consistent entrance. This happens commonly, as the ground can be unstable at times. Staying in there for long enough, however, will always grant entry into this level, provided one isn't on the Concrete Mountain.
- Although unlikely, it is possible to enter Level -9 through The Crawlspace by following the trail laid out by past explorers in The Insulation, since this level is connected to both Level 3 and Level 4. You'll understand that you are approaching your destination if the lights start to get dimmer and dimmer and the layout gradually becomes made of concrete. This will always lead to Floor -1.
- The end of the "Exit Hall" in Level 356 can take you here, but it's extremely rare.
- No-clipping in Level 611 can also take you here, although it's still rare to occur, given that the destination is random.
- Finding an "EXIT" door in the darker areas of Level 131 and going through it has a small chance of taking you here.
- A specific elevator in Level 3 can take you here.
Exits:
- Every door leads to Level -1, regardless of where you entered from. Metal doors lead to Level 98 and not Level -1 in order to preserve the integrity of said level.
- Interacting with the terminals leads back to Level 4.
- Entering a window leads to Level 198.
- Exploring the level during the spherical state may lead to Level 0 or Level -0. Doing the same during the hyperbolic state may take one to Level √2, provided you stay sane, which should be easy.
- An "EXIT" door may take to Level 789 or, rarely, The End.
- Sleeping in a car in Floor -1, the basement floor, takes to Level 4, Level 4.27 or PA98.
- Breaking the ceiling of Floor -1 leads to Level -10Level 908.
- The longer corridors lead to Level Achromatopsia, The Blue Channel or back to Level -8.
- No-clipping thought a wall may lead to Level 1, but it's very hard to perform.
- Going through the front doors can take you to Level -10 or the section of the level you tried to access.
- The exits in Floor 21 were mentioned above.
- Entering a car, guiding it out of Floor -1 and going very far into Pure Air can lead to:
This entrance involves no-clipping the wanderer into the car. Once the level is excited like this, the car will disappear and reappear in Floor -1.
- Exploring deeply the most decayed areas might lead to Level 33.
- the more beautiful it gets, the closer you'll be to the fragmented world.
- Lastly, a staircase that doesn't exist occasionally appears in any floor takes to Level 703, which doesn't exist.
