Offsets

Hello journal. Things haven't been going great recently I have to admit. The whole Crimson Forest debacle is still making its impact felt even now. Arthur and Diana have left the MEG quite recently, taking a number of followers with them. Not fully sure why, but it appears to have been the result of many disagreements between them and the Oversight Council. I can only hope it doesn't lead to war.

Speaking of which, this is also really bad for our current war against the Church of the Veiled. Level 6 has barely been secured just a week before they left. Fortunately, most of the occupiers there aren't loyal to them, otherwise we may have a mutiny resulting in the place being recaptured.

Regardless, the loss of 2 people with good amounts of influence in the MEG definitely did not help in boosting morale. If it weren't for the Eyes, our efforts may very well have stopped here. Even with them, the situation is still tenuous, especially in the Oversight Council. We may need a miracle to save us in this scenario.

I suppose Argos counts as a miracle, since he feels like a god. But we may need something greater to save us(don't tell any eyes members I said that).

Project Devastator

Missing alt text.

An image of an 8-inch gun M1 developed by the United States in the Frontrooms, sharing a similar appearance with a "Devastator".

Through recent breakthroughs in technology, as well as recruitment of several former demolition experts, we, the Leaders, have been able to successfully engineer a weapon capable of destroying entire sections of levels or large groups of people.

The weapon, currently known as "Devastator", is made of several materials which are relatively common in the Backrooms, including aluminum which can be easily scavenged from soda cans in Scene ██.█, can use a wide variety of materials as ammunition, such as gunpowder. However, tests have shown that the weapon works best with Firesalt.

Mass production of the weapon is being considered in several circles, as a method to turn the tide of the war against Emstable.

Hey journal. Its me again. I've heard some commotion in the base recently about some conflict between Overseer B and C. Don't know the full details, but it seems to be quite heated, to say the least. I pray that this won't result in another splinter again.

Other than that, things have improved in Base Beta quite noticeably! The facilities for a garden have been installed recently, and there has been quite a lot of hype for new plants. Guess the people miss their Frontrooms flora very much. Olivia Bellrose, the Botanist of Base Alpha, even visited us to help get the garden in order.

Hopefully this is a sign that things change for the better soon. I doubt they can get much worse.

Hello journal. Today is quite an exciting day. So, a decision seems to have been made to reach out to the I.M.B.H. for certain information. I wasn't confided in what was it supposed to be, but I was charged with escorting Overseer C along with a bunch of other people to their base at Level 11.

The place looks rather unassuming from the outside, but the inside was quite worth seeing. There were quite a lot of ancient-looking artifacts that I couldn't identify, but they looked rather valuable enough. Didn't pocket any through.

In there, Overseer C and his "group" entered into a room with a bunch of other professional looking people who I assume were the leaders of the I.M.B.H. Meanwhile, I, along with a bunch of my fellow escorts, were told to stand near the doorway of the room and stand guard.

Discussion showed that none of us knew what information was about to collected, but it seemed to be successful, as later, Overseer C walked out of the room with a smug face. I wonder how valuable it is.

I write this letter to you to tell you that we don't have enough time to get Project Devastator to deliver results. Nearly all of our bases and resource access points have been destroyed and a majority of people capable of seeing the project brought to fruition, have frankly better priorities to be doing something else.

I am not saying we should call off the project, but if we are to have any hopes of winning this war, we have to consolidate our remaining territories and ensure everything is in order before we go on the offensive.

At the very least, please take the blueprints and keep them somewhere safe. I do not want to think what Emstable would do with this information.

doorBACKDOOR Backrooms' #1 Chat & Forum

[kat_meg]: So you have found out that the blueprints have been hidden somewhere. Great. Any ideas as to where it might be located?

[andrew_meg]: Beats me. I'm as clueless as you. But at least we now are one step closer to developing that weapon.

[kat_meg]: Well it doesn't help us much if we don't know where the blueprints actually are. For all we know, they could have been hidden under a pillar in Level 1 and a wanderer that didn't know better would've burnt them for a fire.

[andrew_meg]: You know very well they wouldn't have hid it in such a spot! They are the Leaders after all.

[kat_meg]: Well they may have adopted the thinking that hiding things in plain sight would be an effective approach.

[andrew_meg]: So much nitpicking from you… why is it that… ah! You're just jealous that my approach worked!

[kat_meg]: What if I'm just being cautious? Several of your "notions" in the war against the Veiled so far have nearly cost us dearly.

[andrew_meg]: Well you can't really live life without taking some risks can't you? And besides, we really shouldn't be arguing like this.

[kat_meg]: I see your attempt to change topics Andrew, but for the sake of the war, I'll let this one slide for now.

[andrew_meg]: Fine.

[kat_meg]: I already have some people digging up information in the Leader's database about this project, just so you know. Hopefully they'll be able to find something of use soon.

Hey journal. Recently, there has been significant activity, particularly in the digital sector. Apparently, according to a friend, there were orders from the oversight council to search for something in the old Leader's database.

I don't know what it is, and when I asked them, they said they couldn't tell me. Now I wonder if it had anything to do with that meeting with the I.M.B.H. this past week.

From: Andrew Donovan - Overseer C of the M.E.G.
To: Arthur Mellon - Leader of the B.N.T.G.

Hello Arthur! It has been some time since we've met, especially with the unfortunate series of events that resulted in the splitting of your group. I wonder if we could reconcile perhaps? The M.E.G. is more than willing to accept the B.N.T.G. as an ally, as well as their assistance. Do let me know. We'll discuss the details later.

Andrew Donovan

From: Arthur Mellon - Leader of the B.N.T.G.
To: Andrew Donovan - Overseer C of the M.E.G.

I'll have to admit, I wasn't expecting an email from you of all people. But I am open to cooperation regardless. It has been quite some time since the whole debacle at the Crimson Forest, and I will agree to at least attempt to reconcile with the M.E.G.—provided that no attempt be made to reintegrate the B.N.T.G. to the M.E.G.

Kat: You invited Arthur? With all due respect to him, are you really THAT desperate?

Arthur: Excuse me, but you didn't specify that she would be here. Had I known, my choice would have been very different.

Andrew: Well, Kat, since you said you needed some assistance digging up the Leader's Database, I brought you some. And as for Arthur, the details that we were going to discuss are about assisting in scouring the Leader's Database. I brought Kat here to help discuss about the finer points of interest.

Kat: And have him able to access OUR database as well?

Arthur: I do have several operatives that formerly worked for the M.E.G., I have access to it anyway. But you shouldn't fear, I won't be snooping around for your "classified" information if you don't sniff around mine.

Kat: Whatever. Since we're here now, might as well just get this over with then.

Andrew: Excellent.

Arthur: Very well then. Before we begin though, I would like to know WHY do you need assistance from me regarding the Leader's database?

Andrew: Well, the Leaders have something very important for us hidden away physically somewhere, and we'll need a list of possible locations for where they could have place the information in.

Kat: Should we really be revea-

Arthur: I'm right here you know. And no, as I've just said, I won't be a busybody to you if you'll do the same for me.

Andrew: Great!

Arthur: And as for that information, I suppose I could help in that. The B.N.T.G.'s technicians are quite capable. I will require something in exchange though.

Kat: And what is that…?

Arthur: What exactly are you looking for of course! And if I can have that information as well.

Kat: No. Absolutely not.

Arthur: Well then, we'll have to call off this mission, unless you can give me a better deal…?

Kat: Believe me, if you know what we're looking for, you'll understand why we can't tell you.

Arthur: Now I'm even more interested! Can't you at least give me a brief summary? It's not like I would be able to do much without any details.

Andrew: I suppose so…? Give us some time to shortly discuss first.

[Andrew and Kat lean into each other and start whispering.]

Kat: Andrew, don't. We don't want any other groups to know of this and potentially starting an extremely destructive war!

Andrew: Come on, what harm is it going to do? Like Arthur said, there's not much he can do from a few lines of information. Besides, we could just make him promise not to use it for harm. He does keep his promises.

Kat: Fine.

[Both lean out again.]

Kat: Alright fine, I'll tell you. But first, you'll have to promise you won't use the knowledge to harm other wanderers.

Arthur: Very well then. I promise not to use whatever knowledge that I will learn shortly to harm other wanderers.

Kat: Good.

Andrew: So basically, what we're trying to find are a set of blueprints to a weapon that is highly destructive. We are going to produce that weapon and have it help us to end the Church of the Veiled. Those weapons were initially developed by the Leaders to defeat Emstable, but never came to fruition.

Arthur: So they hid them away, and now you want my help in finding them?

Kat: Yes.

Arthur: But what do I get in exchange though? Since I've promised not to use the weapon to harm other wanderers, could I obtain a copy of the blueprints so that I can use the weapon to help defend our base?

Kat: No. It's best if as little people as possible know about this information.

Arthur: You have a point. I assume the B.N.T.G. will also remain near uninvolved in regarding development of the weapon as well?

Kat: Yep.

Arthur: But still, I should have something in return for this.

Andrew: Perhaps some assistance in Base building? Particularly in the soon-to-be former Veiled territories? They do have quite a lot of resources, particularly Level 8.

Arthur: Hmm… very well I suppose. Hopefully my technicians, together with yours, will be able to find something of worth.
