Level 303 is the 304th Level of the Backrooms.
Level 303 is a medieval city.

Description

Locations of the level

The Towers
There are 20 towers surrounding the main square. Those are mostly irregular in size and irrealistic. Each tower has a different medieval banner hanging from it, those banners are made out of wool and seem to be taken care of.
There is no way to access the towers and they seem to be here just to block the wanderer in the square. Trying to climb the towers will result in getting tired way more quickly than normal and is considered to be extremely hard.

The Main Tower

The Main Tower is the biggest and most realistic tower in the square. It is in the middle of the square and the wanderers who get inside the level usually appear in front of it. The Tower has a circular structure, it is made out of old tuff and has 5 windows, 3 of which are visible from the inside of the square. Those windows are always dark and hard to see through, they are also positioned near the top of the tower. From the biggest window, there is hanging a red banner, which has the city’s coat of arms. At the bottom of the tower, there is a black door, made out of wrought iron. The door is locked and there is no keyhole or handle near it. It can only be opened from the “inside” of the tower. There is a small bell near the door, however, it is not suggested to play it as it will only cause heavy dizziness and possibly, interrupt the dream.

The closed Street market.

Near the main tower, there is a closed empty medieval street market. Here the city’s coat of arms can be seen carved in each stall. Sometimes almond water can be found on the floor near the stalls, contained inside leather flasks, probably abandoned here by the Villicus. The market is empty and closed when the level is accessed at nighttime, however, if one unlocks daytime the market becomes busy with villicus and full of supplies. Those supplies are not free tho, and the Villicus who manages the Market will ask you for coins or valuable metal in exchange for the supplies.

Level 303 in daytime

By sleeping with the hourglass and accessing the level, one can “unlock” daytime. Turning around the hourglass will make the city suddenly become in bright day. The steel door in the main tower is unlocked. The door is heavy so opening it may be hard. Behind the door, there is a medieval city, of rather huge dimensions. There can be found numerous entities, dressed up like medieval folks and all faceless. They are called the “villĭcus”. The city is divided into a core, where there are most of the buildings and where there is the main square, the countryside, where the villicus that work as citizens live, and a forest. The forest behaves as a barrier and does not let anyone pass or get through it. It creates the limits of the city.

The villĭcus

Villicus are faceless medieval people, who wear the typical medieval dressings and have humanoid features, their skin is pale and they do divide into two genders. They call each other by name, speak ancient English and work in the city’s buildings.
They are friendly to wanderers but not defenseless. Most of them carry a sword and can fight. The villicus are not all the same, they have a personality and some are more friendly than others. There are around 200 villicus in the city.

Each villicus has a job in the city, some of those jobs are knight, blacksmith, shop keepers, farmer. You can work in some shops such as the Liquor Shop to gain coins.
The villicus live in houses that are in the city.

The “Caesar”

Caesar is a villicus, who is dressed way more elegantly than the others. He is taller than the other villicus and wears a crown. He rules the villicus and appears very rarely in the city as he spends most of the time inside the Main tower. He is friendly to wanderers and likes to talk about food recipes.

Here is an interview with Caesar conducted by a member of the MEG

MEG officer - “Greetings sir. A wonderful day isn't it ?”
Caesar - “Aye forsooth citizen, I am the rul'r. You appear to be new here, art thee enjoying thy stayeth at Leornida ?”
MEG officer - “I am. You seem different than the other citizens…Are you the ruler of them ?”
Caesar - “I am the rul'r of this bawbling state as the people has't hath decided, however, I am in the service of thy Emperor “
MEG officer - “And who is this Emperor ?”
Caesar - “simply the ruler of the wonderful kingdom yond this city belongs to…I wouldst loveth to entertain myself in a talketh with thee but I am busy. Any lasteth questions ?”
MEG officer - “Yes, where do you live? And why do you close the doors of the city when it is night ?”
Caesar - “I spendeth most of mine own timeth inside the highest of the toweth'rs, about the doth'rs, we closeth those folk in the night to keepeth the barbars hence” he would then walk away followed by two villicus knights

The Liquor Shop

The liquor shop is a shop that is located near the main square. Inside it, there are numerous liquors bottles, apparently for sale. There is also almond water in high-quality decorated glass bottles.
The shopkeeper is a Female villicus, her name is Caroline. She is kind to the wanderers. If one asks her to work in exchange for coins she will accept and give you a task to accomplish in the store. If you complete the task you will gain 5 silver coins and a golden one. You can use those coins to trade with the other villicus.

Here is an interview conducted by a MEG officer with Caroline

MEG officer - Hello lady. How is life?
Caroline - life hast threat'd me kindly lately, what about thee stranger?
MEG officer - Pretty good lady, I am hungry and I need some food. The people here only trade for coins tho.
Caroline - Alloweth me to giveth thee an opportunity to earneth some wage. if 't be true thee put those liquors on the shelf I shall payeth thee she points towards some empty shells in the shop
MEG officer - Thanks nice lady, what's your name? he would start putting the liquors on the shelf
Caroline - Thee can calleth me caroline, stranger
after a while, the officer fills the shelf with liquors
MEG officer - There you go, done.
Caroline - thank thee, here is thy wage she puts 2 silver coins and a golden coin on the wooden bar in front of her
MEG officer - Thanks Ma’am He walks away

Entity 403

EntitY 403 Is a medieval metal coin, which can be earned by working for Caroline in the Liquor Shop. There are numerous instances of Entity 403 inside level 1.3, and it is the main currency in the level along with valuable metal.

There are three kinds of entities 403, the copper one, the silver one, and the golden one.

The golden one has the image of a crowned individual with an unsheathed sword in the front and a “5” on the back
The Silver coin has the image of a fully armored knight in the front and a “1” in the back”

There is also a third kind of Entity 403 a rusty copper version of it, which is extremely rare and can only be found abandoned in the middle of the square
The coin looks extremely old, the front has what seems to be the image of a Knight without a helmet on it, but the face of the knight has been consumed. The back has a “0,5” on it. If one tries to trade with the Villicus using this coin they will laugh and always deny the offer.

The Tavern

The tavern is a wooden building, near the liquor shop. Here wanderers that are sleeping and accessing the level at the same time can meet. There is only a villicus here, who serves almond water for 1 silver coin to the wanderers. No entities can access this level other than the villicus. The insides of the tavern look like a medieval version of an English pub and the tavern is known for soothing wanderers.

Bases, Outposts, and Communities

The Tavern Drinkers

The tavern drinkers are the only known stable community at this level. They are wanderers who decided to live forever in the safe levels of the backrooms and they meet every night in the Tavern. They are friendly, they don't trade but they can inform you of the levels they have been in and provide useful pieces of information about them
