Description
Level 617 is particularly dreamlike. It even goes as far as to captures people when they sleep. It takes the shape of a wooden balcony attached to a Chinese-styled mansion from the Ming Dynasty1. A cloudy sky surrounds the balcony with a level-made sun peeking out just enough to illuminate the abundance of flora. This artificial sun emits a warm light, albeit very dim, which does not follow the properties of light we have come to know and appreciate. At the end of the balcony, there is a door to the mansion that nobody has been able to open so far. What does this door leads to? Is it another level, or nothing at all? Perhaps your mind has yet to dream that far
The Faeries
The only entities in this level are the ones temporarily dubbed "faeries". The faeries appear to be white, luminescent, and feminine humanoid shapes. They wear long robes and dresses; some adorn themselves in shawls, jewelry (made of the same substance as themselves), capes, or scarves. Though they are only one color, the light of the level-made sun reveals facial features and distinctive forms in their clothes and hairstyles. However, you can never see the eyes on these entities, as there is simply a flat surface where they should be. Despite being nonverbal, they play out conversations with each other, walk in groups, perform hand actions that resemble writing, and watch the scenery together. They don't really give you any attention. The only faerie who notices you is this particular one known as Disenchantment. The name comes from the engravings on the fence by which it watches you from afar. While Disenchantment appears the same as any other faerie, it is different in its ability to communicate with you. Its words will make their way to your thoughts with only the slight chance you realize those thoughts aren't yours. Disenchantment's ethereal "voice" shares cryptic messages, such as:
"Feel free to smell the flowers."
"You are but a petal in the morning breeze."
"Good and wealthy things will not last forever."
"Dreams don't last forever."
Wanderer Log: Paradise Lost
This log belongs to a wanderer who has chosen to stay anonymous, as I don't want to be bombarded with questions in person by any major organizations of the sort. This is my experience with Level 617, a domain that feels like it is neither from the Frontrooms or the Backrooms.
When I first arrived in this level, I was met with a comforting feeling, like I was safe. I knew I wasn't back home, because it looked too perfect, too ideal. I could see the sky, the hills covered in flowers and grass, the clouds that appear as if to take over the skies, and the deep blue river that surrounded the sky. This river essentially had no bottom, but it was no sea. I threw an empty drink carton into the river, and it just disappeared before it could even hit the water. Not a ripple or anything. It's essentially a way to de-atomize yourself. Good thing it was the carton and not me.
This level appears to be perfectly safe aside from the river, but there are a few things to keep note of. First and foremost, it has an owner known as Disenchantment, who is one of many level-specific entities. Despite looking the same as the rest, the power she emanated and the thoughts that she spoke to my mind gave me what I can only describe as an out of body experience. This feeling, both dreadful and enchanting, went away as soon as she stopped looking at me and went back to staring at the clouds. As for the entity species itself, I called them "faeries" when I was here because they kinda look and act like the folklore creatures, but they were around 160 centimeters2. These entities take the appearance of young women, but they seem like they are almost made of clay and plasma. I think they have some sort of sentience, even though they wouldn't talk to me. Personally, I find it extremely likely that Disenchantment controls the entire place.
Oh! I remembered they're going to want photos! Well, I tried to take photos, but unfortunately, all the photos came out white, like someone shined a flashlight on the camera. I noticed that the light was reflecting off of the faeries. Huh, it looks like that the fake sun here forebodes photography. Ah! What a shame! Who knows? Maybe I could've gotten it to work, but I was too busy exploring the place to tinker with my camera. So I have to turn to drawing. I tried to draw how the level looked, but I realized I am no artist, as I could never compete with the natural artist who made this scenery.
There are flowers that lie along the hills and valleys beyond the balcony. Despite being so far away, they smell like they're right there next to me. Various types of different flora from the Frontrooms are inhabitants here. From what I can make out, there were peonies, hydrangeas, lilacs, desert roses, narcissus, chrysanthemums, and amaryllis. There were probably more, but I couldn't see them. The scents these flowers provide affect the mind in a few ways. They range in effects from being basically harmless to totally altering your psychology the more you're in their presence. The smell of the flowers creates a pleasant experience.
The balcony isn't very large, only around the size of a master bedroom, but outside it looks like goes on for eternity (though I'm pretty sure this is just backdrop). It is decorated with tables and chairs, which themselves have been carefully engraved with intricate patterns. Atop these tables are items, such as candles, books, feathers, and handkerchiefs, all made from the same material as the entities. The faeries are seen scattered across the balcony and often interact with the items found along it
Because there were so many beautiful things that got my attention first, it took me a long time to even shift my focus to the door on the opposing side of the enchanting view. The door's main color was red, but it had yellow-ish gold accents. The door looked to be around 2.7 meters tall3 and maybe 1 meter wide4 It was locked and covered in a moss-like substance. When I tried to yank it open, it didn't budge, and the rattling didn't even get the attention of the faeries. It's as if they didn't care I was there.
While I was here, I was able to fill myself up on food and drink with resources that were slowly replenished when sitting on the tables. I was only here for an hour, but 20 minutes into my stay, I became filled with emotions abnormal to me. I still mildly feel them to this day, like they don't want to go away. I felt an impulsive urge to jump off the balcony and have my soul flow in that river, never to be reincarnated as a human again. Despite such a dark thought, I felt rather calm and at peace, like this would be the perfect place to die. If I were to die here, I can die a clean, pure being. I did not listen to that feeling. I needed to record after all. Another thing about the level is that it's the most "feminine" that I have encountered. I, a man, felt out of place in its grand symphonies. I felt a a sense of cleanliness that I think I'll never feel again, a high I can only chase, but due to the body I was born in, I can never obtain. I'm currently waiting for the changes to wear off, but I'm not sure if they ever will, even after two months since I visited. It was an euphoric experience after all, so I suppose getting some dysphoria5 from it isn't too out of the ordinary.
What I learned during my stay is that the level itself is safe while you're inside, but the danger is it's psychological effects once you exit.
LOG ENDED
Entrances And Exits
Entrances
Falling asleep in most levels on any surface that isn't a floor has the very small chance to bring here when you wake up. Entry is essentially entirely random. Therefore, this level is extremely hard to enter. Only one living being at a time is allowed entry. Objects can only come here if the wanderer already has them with them.
Exits
The door in the level is thought to be an alternate exit, but it has yet to be successfully opened.
After around an hour, the "REM state6" will wear off, and you will exit this Land of Illusion from whence you came.
This place sounds like a good place to make your peace with whomever before you meet your end to another entity.
