Level 56's endless river. A bridge can be seen in this photo.

Level 56 is the 57th level of the Backrooms. It is an endless river with several anomalous properties.

Description

Level 56 is a possibly infinite landscape with a river which stretches in all 4 cardinal directions. The river is bordered by an infinite stretch of white oak forests, however attempting to walk past the river will result in a mysterious source which tells the wanderer to go back. If the wanderer is still not convinced to go back, it will always result in instant death. This effect even works on drones, however instead of the wanderer being told to stop, the drone unexpectedly breaks. The temperature of this level can be considered mildly cold, and Level 56 lacks a day-night cycle, being stuck in eternal noon. The river water is also usually Almond Water, but is harmful to consume unless boiled because of the several lifeforms of bacteria that are present in it. Several flowers can be found on the grass near the river, which resemble flowers from normal reality, but usually have one thing wrong with them. For example, a clover might have 5 leaves, or a daisy might have wrong colors. These flowers are also impossible to rip out.

Numerous undiscovered life forms of algae and fish have been found in the river. A minimal amount of algae has been put under a microscope in M.E.G outposts, and returned several weird symmetrical patterns and fractals being found in the algae. This level also has several hostile piranhas, which are much faster than any piranha found in normal reality, and poses a several risk towards anyone that attempts to explore this level with a weak boat, or trying to swim without any form of a boat. The depth of the river is approximately 100 inches, and several holes can be found at the very bottom, leading to a deep point of Level 7. Swimming in this level instead of a raft or a boat is heavily inadvisable, since the piranhas can kill you, or catching any form of The Disease or consuming a bit of poisonous algae by accidentally swallowing the water.

Several forms of buildings have been seen off shore, and are unable to be accessed due to the level's special properties of going anywhere past the river. These can range from small stone buildings, to small skyscrapers. Other than buildings, dirt and asphalt roads, fields of possibly wheat, and small holes in the ground have been seen through the trees. The wood from the trees is also fit for any kind of use, which means that you can make campfires, boats, rafts and small wooden cabins in this level for any kind of survival or outposts. Gravity in this level is mostly normal, although several trees or branches can be seen floating in mid-air or glitching into one-another.

Level 56's river can cut through various areas, such as farms, small hills, mountains and rarely cities. If the river cuts through a mountainous or urban area, several bridges may appear, which can be jumped and climbed on if the wanderer is agile enough. Bridges can be fit for survival or outposts if the wanderer is prepared, and are completely safe from Entities that cannot reach the height of bridges. These bridges never fall apart and seem to be invincible, being immune to any form of destruction, however they cannot be used in any other level, since attempting to harvest the wood will grant no results. The river can actively bend it's layout, and seems to have a mind of it's own, although it almost never does any actions like this. The river's layout can be confusing without any changes made by the unusual sentience, and can weirdly loop or bend in incredibly anomalous ways.

There is almost no form of WiFi or any other similar internet connections, but finding a radio station or radio tower nearby the river will show a WiFi connection which always has the name of: "0992RadioStation" which always requires the password "54321". The connection of this WiFi network is quite faulty though, and takes the minimum of 7 seconds for any form of content to load.

Entities

Entities such as Deathmoths, Clumps, Crawlers and The Disease can be found in this level. There are also 2 entities exclusive to this level, which are the unique piranhas previously mentioned in this level's Description, and algae that is non-responsive, but is incredibly hallucinatory and poisonous if consumed, and always results in death in the next 2-5 hours if a lethal dose is eaten. The lethal dose of this algae is 5 grams, and can be used as an addictive drug if a proper dose has been used.

Bases, Outposts, and Communities

There are no known bases, communities or outposts on this level.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

You can enter this level through entering several small tunnels which have 4 feet between the ceiling and the ground in several levels, which can be identified by half of this tunnel being embodied in water. You can find this small tunnel in the following levels included, but not limited to;

Another way to enter is to find a river in Level 10 and swim to the river's deepest point, and resurface.

Exits

  • Finding a hole on the river floor and entering it will lead you to a deep point in Level 7.
  • No-clipping into two trees that are glitching into one-another will make you end up in Level 322.
