Description:

Level 306 is an endless series of wide, airport-like halls filled with groups of mechanically operated walkways. The entire design of this level is held to be confusing and disorienting, causing psychological distress for wanderers and creating a semi-hazardous environment that most likely will result in a high number of entity related casualties among them.

The hallways of the level stretch wide, with the floor consisting entirely of 4-6 moving walkways at varying speeds, flowing in opposite directions that loop and interconnect to other hallways in a non-Euclidean, maze-like pattern. Scattered throughout the level are areas with concrete flooring. These areas serve as brief respite spots where wanderers can momentarily escape the relentless motion of the walkways. Vending machines may be found in those areas, and if you are lucky, they might contain some food and snacks.

The temperature of the environment is quite cold, roughly 10°C (50°F). The walls lining the level are made of metal, contributing to an already frigid atmosphere. The ceilings are lined with light fixtures, but only some remain functional. This results in the vast majority of the level being enveloped in darkness, with the only sounds heard being the eerie mechanical humming and whirring of the conveyor belts of the walkways and faint unintelligible distorted vocal announcements echoing in the distance. Unless one possesses a source of light, navigating this level is considered risky and even dangerous due to the extremely limited visibility.

Aside from vending machines, in certain areas of the level with concrete flooring, glass walls may be encountered. However, nothing can be seen through them, save for a screen of pitch black darkness. Attempting to escape the level by shattering the glass is considered a futile effort, as the windows are double-paned. The first layer is made of tempered glass while the second layer is made of polycarbonate. Even if a wanderer were able to penetrate the first layer of glass, the entities attracted by the noise would reach the wanderer before the wanderer could attempt to break the second layer of glass.

The unique aspect of the level is the constant changing speed of the walkways, which makes traversal significantly more difficult. Additionally, the walkways unexpectedly speed up or slowing down can cause wanderers to stumble and fall, making noise and alerting the entities. The worst a walkway can do is change trajectory mid-run. This can cause wanderers to be thrown off balance, slowing them down. This is dangerous, especially when being chased by alerted hostile entities.

Entities:

Entities such as Hounds, Smilers, Skin-stealers, Deathmoths, Dullers and Partygoers are the most common hostile entities found in groups within the darkness of Level 306. Due to the darkness of the level, these entities roam the walkways, sometimes just standing still, allowing the walkway to take them to unsuspecting victims. These entities are agitated by the P.A. system announcements from speakers mounted on the corners of some walls. Since it is quite dark, it is advised to avoid areas where the announcements are heard the loudest. Avoid making loud noises by utilizing stealth, critical thinking, and timing to expertly maneuver jumping from walkway to walkway.

Non-hostile entities can also be encountered on this level such as Warning kites and more rarely, Blub Cats. A group of Warning kites may be encountered floating on the ceiling, indicating a massive number of hostile entities closely. Due to the presence of partygoers on this level, Blub Cats may rarely be encountered in brighter areas with concrete flooring

Another rare docile entity that could be encountered on this level is Cannibal cuisines. If lucky, the entity will be present alongside other standard vending machines. The items released by Cannibal cuisines can be used as a distraction to feed hostile entities while traveling in the darkness.

Escalators are also present and may be found within Level 306. These escalators connect seamlessly with the walkways, and may take a wanderer to higher or lower sections of the level. Either way, taking them would lead to areas with even more hostile entities residing in them. Similar to the walkways, the escalators can also change speed and direction unpredictably, so it is advised to climb up or slide down the railing, after confirming there are no entities nearby.

Bases, Outposts and Communities:

Due to the nature of this level, along with several other characteristics mentioned previously, attempting to survive at this level is extremely difficult, and thus establishing bases, outposts or communities is ill-advised, and not feasible.

Entrances:

  • Running, standing or walking on a moving walkway anywhere in the Frontrooms.
  • Attempting to noclip while falling mid-air or attempting to noclip through a wall on mostly enclosed levels of the Backrooms, have a high probability of entering Level 306.
  • Noclipping through the floor on Level 0.
  • Noclipping while running or standing on a moving walkway on Level 36.
  • Jumping off a platform onto the track seconds before an oncoming train on Level 185.
  • Attempting to noclip after falling from a building on Level 208.
  • Listening intently and following the sound of machine noises while eyes are closed on Level 305.

Exits:

  • Breaking the ceiling of the level, and crawling through a ventilation shaft leads directly to Level 2.
  • Finding an unlocked emergency exit door will lead to an atrium on Level 212.
  • Finding an unlocked restroom door will lead to Level 189.
  • Successfully noclipping through a glass wall leads to The Void.
  • Listening intently and following the sound of a copier machine printing paper while eyes are closed could lead to either an office space on Level 11 or a Xerox machine on Level 480.
