SURVIVAL DIFFICULTY:
Class 4
- {$one}
- {$two}
- {$three}
Level 818 is the 819th Level of the Backrooms.
Description
Level 818 is an infinitely expanding wintry suburban neighborhood, with multiple roads throughout the Level. The winding snowy roads in the Level consist of many features and assets taken directly from The Suburbs, such as their darkness properties. The snow that is in the Level goes on forever and does not seem to stop. Temperatures can reach as low as -450°C, and the snow is always somewhere in-between 4 to 10 feet. The weather in the Level is enough for Wanderers to get major symptoms from frostbite and hypothermia which can lead to death if not careful. It is heavily advised to wear protective clothing such as a polar jacket to keep warmth.

The suburban neighborhood, as one sees it, consistently has dim streetlights and houses that range from shacks to three-story houses. The houses do not contain any sort of human life, although entities could possibly reside in some of them to try to avoid freezing to death. The streetlights can cause effects to Wanderers ranging from hallucinating paths or entities, slowing down their mind, or erratically shaking without any control whatsoever. Wanderers can also be induced with heavy paranoia, as if they were being watched.
Entities
Frost Variants
The most common entities in the Backrooms, which are also present in Level 818, are sometimes replaced as a Frost variant. Frost variants are exclusive to this Level due to the extreme weather conditions. The most common ones include Skin-Stealers, Hounds, and Clumps, as they are the most common entities that have skin and can be affected greatly by the freezing weather. They have somehow adapted to the weather this way and can use their abnormal powers to kill Wanderers. Hounds for example, have developed greatly in their senses for catching their prey. They are now extremely quiet and fast, which they can sneak up on Wanderers who are not careful of their surroundings. However, some variants of Skin-Stealers and Clumps are also greatly affected as they are slightly slower, compared to their normal counterparts. All Frost Variants seem to be more intelligent than their normal versions.
Exclusive Entities
By every house in the Level, there is a Snowman. Snowmen in the Level presumably appear very poorly made, as if a toddler had made it. However, these snowmen should not be acknowledged in any way, due to the amount of danger that can happen if not ignored.
Once a Wanderer tries interacting with a snowman, the snow layers on the snowman fall off and appear to be made up of melted magma, which can burn anything that is in direct contact with it. This directly allows the melted snowman to run extremely quickly to attempt killing anyone in its path. Because of this, Wanderers have found a way to exploit this and make them into exit-finders. The wanderer runs around on top of the snow, although quite hard, while the melted snowman follows underneath. Using this it is, although rare, possible to find an exit in the snow, which is rather easier than standing on random patches of snow to try attempting to find exits.
Addendum
There are a few documented properties in the Level which make it unique from others.
Cryptic snow messages
A former community residing in the Level had found an extremely rare snow message in the ground, which was in morse code. It is unknown whether or not this was another previous Wanderer that had been in the Level, or an unknown entity trying to confuse wanderers.
Possible infinite snow exploit
As mentioned before, the snow is infinite throughout the Level, and Wanderers have tried exploiting this by using it as a free water source or selling it as "100% Whole Backrooms Water" to gain more materials. However, as of now, this has proved fruitless as more research had shown that people who drank the "water" had an incredibly shorter lifespan, due to unknown causes. This may be from the properties of the snow that make it unsafe to drink. Wanderers also tried boiling the water, which was the only way they could drink it without risking their lives. As of now, most properties in the Level have not been fully confirmed, and these two are the only ones that have been present throughout the Level ever since it was first discovered in 1998.
Bases, Outposts, and Communities
The Alliance of The Frostflake (former, abandoned in 2023)
As many Wanderers have died from the freezing weather, there used to be an outpost that had about ten members, which researched the Level and tried providing useful information about the Level to wanderers. However, they were killed and buried under the snow by multiple Frost variants as their safe area was located by the entities' sheer intelligence.
Other former outposts were also formerly in the Level, as researchers found them through traces scattered throughout the Level.
Entrances and Exits
There is only one known entrance to Level 818 while there are two known exits. The way to enter Level 818 is to enter Level 5 and climb through one of the pipes that connects to the main boiler of the boiler room. This will take you to Level 818, as the cold temperatures there keep the boiler from overheating.
One of the ways to exit this level is to walk down the street, though you might have to walk a while to finally exit. The exit will look like a giant overpass, connecting Level 818 and whatever else is there. The second exit, on the other hand, is by falling through the snow. You will fall through some patches of snow if you stand on them for too long. Both exits lead to random Levels, and groups can be separated through this process. DO NOT expect anything from this Level.
